Minutes of Steering Committee,

Winchester Area VOTF, Sept. 10, 2003, 7.30 p.m.

In attendance: Bob Morris, Eileen DiGangi, Mary Lou Burke, Jan Dolan, Anna-Marie Ferraro, Anne Harris, Marie Doyle, Paul Kellen, Louise Aleo, Judy Eisel, Clare Keane.

The Opening Prayer was offered by Anne Harris.

Financial Status: Anna-Marie reported we have roughly $600 in the WAVOTF account. We are interested in earmarking funds for a new sound system. Mary Lou reported that the church is having a consultant assess the needs. Louise's brother would be willing to lend his expertise.

Planning for the September 20th Lay Council Meeting: WAVOTF will be hosting this meeting and needs volunteers. Bob has received quite explicit information from VOTF Central about the lunch to be provided. Jan offered to oversee the lunch process and do the ordering. Survivor group (LinkUp, SNAP) representatives will feature in the morning session. The afternoon session will be a business meeting and VOTF has promised that it will be completed by 3.30, due to the 4 p.m. Mass.

Discussion of Recent Meetings: The attendance at the August 25 meeting (Fr. David O'Leary from Tufts) was very good. The Sept. 8 evening of spiritual reflection and music was quite wonderful, in everyone's opinion. A general comment was made that if we want to keep people returning to meetings, we must ensure somehow that presenters take it seriously and come well prepared.

Letter to Membership: Bob distributed a draft copy of a letter that will be emailed to those members with email addresses and mailed to the rest. It announces the calendar for the Fall and invites comments and suggestions.

Future Meetings: On Sept. 15, working groups will meet. First there will be an invitation to speak. The priests' support group needs to finalize plans for the next Potluck for Priests. The survivor support group will review several designs which have been submitted for a Christmas card the proceeds from will go to survivors. We may use more than one design. There will be an Open Discussion group on the 15th as many may want to discuss the settlement between the Archdiocese and victims of abuse.

The committee decided to devote the meeting of Oct. 6 to the praying of a Scriptural Rosary, to honor Mary, and to pray for the successful implementation of the Archdiocesan settlement with survivors.

Lengthy discussion followed concerning the format of a number of future meetings, including the presentation by members of the Priests' Forum on October 27. It was decided to pass out a questionnaire at the Sept. 15 meeting seeking topics for the priests to discuss. There will be no meeting on November 3 because of the Parish Mission. It was decided to hold a working groups meeting on November 10. Barbara Penkala may make an informational presentation on the Virtus program on November 17, and Bob will ask Marge to gather survivors for a meeting on November 24. Fr, John O'Malley from Weston is scheduled to speak to us on Dec. 1. There will probably be no meeting on Dec. 8, the feast of the Immaculate Conception.

The next Steering Committee Meeting will be held on October 8.

For the Closing Prayer, the group prayed the Our Father.
