Minutes of Steering Committee,
Winchester Area VOTF, May 14, 2003, 7.30 p.m.
In attendance: Bob Morris, Judy Eisel, Jan Dolan, Marge Bean, Louise Aleo, Paul Kellen, Dee Ingalls, Clare Keane.
The Opening Prayer was offered by Bob.
Discussion of Recent Meetings: Feedback about Fr. Keenan's presentation on May 12 and the meetings on April 28 and May 5 was generally positive.
June 7: A day-long VOTF Conference will be held at Our Lady Help of Christians in Newton. In preparation for the discussions to be held that day, parish voices have been asked to collate responses to a questionnaire about VOTF's vision for the future of the church. The committee used one member's responses as a starting point for further discussion.
May 19 meeting: Attendees will break into groups and discuss the Steering Committee's collective responses to the questionnaire. Refreshments will follow and will conclude all meetings from now on, whenever possible.
May 4 Parish Voice Gathering: All who attended agreed that voices can learn a great deal from each other's successful initiatives. We need to plan more such gatherings. Mary Ann Keyes described the event as a model for others to follow.
Future Meetings: Bob presented a list of possible initiatives for future meetings. These include: inviting our critics to a meeting; creating a book of thoughts, hopes, frustrations, prayers, written by our members; a presentation by three nuns who will share their experiences of changes in the church in their lifetimes; Christmas fundraising for survivors; surveys of members. Other suggestions were added to the list and will be investigated.
Coffeehouse for Survivors: Plans for May 30 are going forward.
Supporting Priests: Following Fr. Keenan's presentation, members of this group felt it was important to approach the Priests' Forum to offer help with the logistics of communication.
June 2 Meeting: Patricia DeLeeuw from Boston College will speak.
June 9 Meeting: Michael Vaughn will be holding a recording session in the church, so we will need to use the Parish Center.
The next Steering Committee Meeting will be held on June 11.
For the Closing Prayer, the group prayed the Our Father.
