Minutes of Steering Committee,
Winchester Area VOTF, Jan. 8, 2003, 7.30 p.m.
In attendance: Bob Morris, Anna-Marie Ferraro, Anne Harris, Judy Eisel, Marge Bean, Paul Kellen, Louise Aleo, Jane Howard, Dee Ingalls, Clare Keane.
The Opening Prayer was offered by Anne.
Jan 6 meeting: 26 people attended the meeting here at St. Eulalia's. It was icy that night, and some who might have attended were possibly at the Cathedral at the vigil to protest VOTF bans and to commemorate the first anniversary of the abuse revelations. Paul attended the vigil and summarized the proceedings. He felt a sense of frustration that no mention was made of the goal of protecting children. A number of people spoke at the vigil. The proceedings ran for an hour and although Paul had prepared a document, he did not get to speak. The group discussed the different focuses among VOTF members. Paul will attend the informal meeting on Saturday in North Andover and raise the goal of protecting children. Jane announced that a course is being offered on the Future Protection of Children.
Website and Phoneline: Bob will confer with Mary Lou before canceling any meeting because of dubious weather.
Regina has received some feedback on the website already. She will ensure that the link to our old website from votf.org is changed to point to the new website.
Final Informational Meeting: On Sunday there will be an informational presentation on VOTF after the 5 p.m. Mass. Several members volunteered to help that evening. Bob will create a flyer with updated information to distribute with the now out-of-date brochures.
Financial Status: Anna-Marie amended last week's statement. Our financial picture looks better now, but to defray some upcoming speakers' honoraria, we will continue to pass the basket at Monday night meetings. Anna-Marie will release an expanded financial statement in the near future.
VOTF-Wide Elections: Jim Post is running unopposed for re-election to the position of President. Nominations for Vice-President, Clerk/Secretary, Treasurer and Moderator are coming in from all over the country, and because this geographical diversity presents logistical problems in terms of meetings, groups are working on a new meeting strategy. Regina will post on our website any information she receives about candidates for the other positions, or will send visitors to the correct link on the votf.org website. After this election, the voting process will be changed to allow all members a vote, not just the chapter representatives.
Future Meetings: On January 13, the meeting will be in the church. Anna-Marie will introduce Jacqui Landry. Phil Saviano and Susan Gallagher will come on January 27. Fr. Nestor will speak on February 10 and Fr. John Sassani on March 3.
Bonnie has suggested we invite the parent of a Survivor/Deacon to speak.
Paul is in touch with Gail Frawley, a counselor who works with victims.
Bob raised a possible event that had been discussed before – getting Parish Voices together for a social gathering.
Due to our advance planning for meetings, Bob announced that the next Steering Committee meeting will not be held until January 29.
The group closed the meeting by praying the Our Father.
